John Pomp’s Lumenariums are similar to a terrarium but with light or luminaries inside instead of plants and sand. John Pomp’s unique life history seems to have brought him to the perfect stages of design influence, creating a sort of road less traveled that designers tend to travel.

John Pomp’s Lumenariums – A Terrarium Filled With Light

Originally from a small town in Western Pennsylvania, son of a carpenter, John found his way into glassblowing through an art teacher. Years of schooling in the Venetian art of glassblowing by maestros from Murano, Italy finally prepared him for a successful career in NYC.  This is where John’s career began to blossom and he gained notoriety for his blown glass and lighting.

John’s Lumenariums are made from hand-blown opaline glass cloches (French for bell) that fade from clear to blurred. Finally finished with a steel base featuring an oil rubbed bronze finish. The pictures may leave you with misconceptions of the actual size of the luminary, surprisingly they range from 15.5″ to 25″ in height. Wow!
